The Opening Ceremony for Breeze 2018 took place in the main arena on February 9, 2018, at 7 pm. It marked the official beginning of the techno-cultural-sports festival, despite events occurring the entire day, and proffered a warm welcome to everyone, visitor or resident student. The ceremony consisted of many performances from Snuphoria and Inferno that catered to the likes of a diverse audience, also giving a peek into what the 72 hours Breeze Rewind had in store.

The ceremony started with passing the Breeze torch across the main arena by some of SNU’s very own Sports achievers including ex-Sports secretary and Director of Sports events – Rohit Nelakuditi. It ended with placing the torch in the centre of the field. Dr Rupamanjari Ghosh, Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University then declared the festival, open. Senior year Srirupa Sen was the compere for her final Breeze. Freshers Kabir Arora, Mansi Srivastava and Mohnish Jagwani were the other comperes for the evening.

There were eight performances in total, four by each Snuphoria and Inferno. Snuphoria, who presented a soothing instrumental group performance by our very own orchestra – Dadri Philharmonic, flagged off the event. The classical wing of Inferno then presented a Kathak-Bharatnatyam fusion performance. Our very own metal band, Opeth rocked the stage followed by Chanakya and group’s energetic dance number. Snuphoria then paid tribute to legendary A.R. Rahman by performing his popular compositions including “Dil Se”, “Urvasi Urvasi” and “Adiye” (Tamil). Rajat Gaur performed his number which was followed by a collaboration of our two in-house groups – Raza and Synergy. The ceremony ended with a very energetic dance performance by Hustle. The opening ceremony was proceeded by a very rocking EDM DJ night, with known DJs such as Van Moon, DJ Ragnek and Mallika & Nina. One key highlight of this ceremony was that this event marked last-Breeze performances for some senior members of the clubs. Seniors like Chanakya, Rajat Gaur, Akanksha Duggal, Nitish Bharadwaj, Utkarsh Negi, Sonali Varma and Sneha Iyer from Inferno, Swetha Sekar, Anirudh Kishore, Ishan Gupta, Raghav Kaushik, Arnav Pokhriyal, Anshuman Srinivasan, Amir Suhail, Apoorv Walia and Anunay Kausteya from Snuphoria enthralled the audience with their performances one last time.

The main arena had food stalls from places such as Pizza Hut, Speedy Chow and Crème Castle, which served a variety of food items- from Pizza to Chinese to waffles to rolls- catering to a variety of palates. The place had been decorated with the colourful lanterns and fairy lights, which made it very appealing. Moreover, there was also a wall made entirely of CDs, which made up for a good picture spot. The overall atmosphere of the place was very exciting, yet comforting. Delectable food, exhilarating performances, cozy ambience, the rush from the 90s rewind, and the fact that there were still seventy-two hours to go, all made the opening ceremony on Day 1 at Breeze 2018, unforgettable.
